At Traduciência, we specialize in translating, revising and proofreading scientific research articles in Brazilian Portuguese and English. The company was founded by translators for researchers, and came from a genuine desire to help Brazilian authors publish their articles in English language journals and further the reach of their discoveries.
We know how much dedication and perseverance it takes to conduct scientific research and draft manuscripts, and how frustrating the language barrier can be for non-English-speaking researchers in terms of getting their work published. In more than 18 years in the industry, we’ve witnessed first-hand the lack of truly qualified translators, and the difficulties faced by authors to find translators who are not only native English speakers, but also have specific experience translating and revising scientific research, and who understand the specific requirements of academic journals. Being a native English speaker is simply not enough; it’s essential to have experience translating and revising academic articles, combined with an intimate understanding of Brazilian Portuguese and a sincere desire to always produce top quality work and make sure every article we work on can be clearly read and understood. Your valuable research deserves nothing less than our absolute best.

Co-Founder, Translator and Administrator
I was born and raised in Durban, South Africa, and have a Hotel Management Degree from Thames Valley University in London, where I lived for 6 years, working in management in the hotel industry before moving to Brazil in 2004. After initially working in the hotel industry in Northeast Brazil, I started teaching English part-time, eventually transitioning to teaching full-time at all levels, including business English, immersion classes, preparing university students for the TOEFL test, and teaching English proficiency to university professors and academic researchers. It’s here that I crossed paths with my fellow translator and eventual business partner, who invited me to work alongside him as an official translator for the Federal University of Rio Grande Norte, translating and revising scientific research articles for professors and students in all the university’s departments. This marked the beginning of my now 18-year career as a translator and proofreader, specializing in scientific research, during which time I have worked as a freelancer and an in-house translator at a translation company, before co-founding Traduciência 10 years ago. In 2013, I sat the Brazilian Ministry of Education’s Celpe-Bras exam (Certificate of Portuguese Proficiency for Foreigners) and received an Advanced Superior grading, the highest level awarded for the test.
